Are there any known side effects for Insulin eye drops? Can anyone who has tried them share their experience of using insulin eye drop?

I would like to consult with a doctor regarding trying insulin eye drops but I am seeking more information on the potential side effects here first.

I am interested in trying this as well. I doubt that my very-conservative Dr will help me get the insulin or drops. Any suggestions on where I could find a Dr who could help? My Dr does not even want me to get preservative-free drops!

Please see this related post for information about insulin eye drops:

That is as good an answer as I think you will find at this early stage of exploration of this topic.

Thanks! David

There is no summary for effect in the patent or anywhere. I would like to try it if there is no side effect.

Is there a doctor willing to give the prescription? I am sure some people want to try it here as well.

Actually, it does say:

The treatment seems to be very safe and to produce no side effects in the animals.

Beyond that, remember that you are asking about an experimental treatment. You should always assume that there could be some side effects. Anyone engaging in experimental treatments needs to assess their own risk tolerance.

Sometimes, even after the lengthy FDA approval process and the Rx has been on the market for years, we learn about new side effects of medications. In this case, insulin is not approved for this specific purpose and it has not been widely used for it. If you choose to be a pioneer, be willing to accept whatever consequences there are. Do your own risk-reward assessment.

I personally think the risks of insulin eye drops are within my comfort zone, but I have not yet made my final decision. I am planning to read as much as I can, and that's what any of us should do.

Try not to just read a summary when you are contemplating an experimental treatment. Spend more time and read in depth to the best of your ability. Good luck!

Insulin eye drop has been applied for patients with diabetes and proven to be safe. If it’s safe for diabetic patients, it shouldn’t harm normal people.

There are plenty of online research about insulin drops for diabetes patients. It’s weird why no human trial for glaucoma patients in US
