What are your experiences with the Hydrus Microstent?
What are your experiences with the Hydrus Microstent?
Dr. David Richardson says:
My preferred minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) is to combine ab-interno canaloplasty (ABiC) with placement of a Hydrus trabecular microbypass stent (Hydrus Microstent). If both cannot be done (due to insurance limitations) then either one works well (though not quite as well as when combined).
He further expanded on this topic:
If you have Medicare (that has not been traded in for an HMO or "Advantage" plan) then you may be a candidate for combined Ab-Interno Canaloplasty (ABiC) plus implantation of the Hydrus microstent at the time of cataract surgery. This combined procedure both dilates (and flushes out the natural drainage system as well as stents open a portion of it. I now offer this to most of my patients with mild to moderate open angle glaucoma who are also undergoing cataract surgery. For those with more advanced glaucoma I still generally recommend Ab-Externo Canaloplasty which is a much longer and far more challenging surgery.
Some new MIGS options are coming in the near future. In addition to the Beacon device, we have an unannounced MIGS device that I'm very excited about. Dr. David Richardson will be able to tell you about it as soon as it is available.

He explains there:
MP-TSCPC is rapidly becoming my “go to” recommendation for many...
