I have mild glaucoma, mostly in one eye. Over the past few years, I have noticed the world looks a little darker and hazier and ghosting interferes with reading signs through that eye (in bright light I don't notice it). I recently had 2 consultations (one will give me an SLT). My main doctor, who is well known and respected, said glaucoma is not the cause of the darkness/haziness, and that I hardly have any cataracts at all, so that could be not be causing it either. 2nd doctor said it could be the glaucoma. 3rd doctor (the first doctor referred me to him) said I have enough cataracts to cause that. No one agrees. Who is right? Has anyone else experienced slight darkness and haziness due to mild glaucoma? Or does this sound much more like cataracts?
I'm also considering an early IOL to free myself of glasses (my prescription is -8.5). 2nd doctor (same doc as above) said maybe, but that I should consider not messing with my young (I'm 57 years old) healthy eyes because I'm at risk for retinal detachment/tears because of the high myopia. 3rd doctor said the risk of a detachment/tear for me is still very low (though he'd give me a more thorough testing to look for thinning, which I do have). Does anyone have thoughts about this? Thanks.
